WELCOME
Welcome to Cuan an Iar, where nature-lovers can escape from life’s stresses and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of their surroundings on our off-grid campsite.

With rugged natural landscapes, idyllic views, amazing wildlife, and breath-taking dark skies, we believe our tranquil spot on the stunning Isle of Colonsay is really special, and we think you will too.

Cuan an Iar (pronounced Cooan an Ear!) is Scottish-Gaelic and translates to Ocean West. You’ll find our site nestled amongst our 15-acre croft’s natural hillocks on the west coast where the island meets the ocean with spectacular views of the North Atlantic and, if you’re lucky, the wonder of the Northern Lights!

If wild camping is your thing, choose the perfect spot to pitch your tent where, with a maximum of 14 tents at any time, you’ll have plenty of space to unwind, take in the vivid sunsets and stargaze without any close neighbours.

Or, if you prefer to enjoy the wilderness with a few more creature comforts, opt for our cosy bell tent which has been lovingly furnished to keep you super snug. It comes complete with a double bed, 2 single sofa beds, cosy linens, and a fully-equipped cooking area – perfect to rustle up a hearty breakfast before exploring the island.

We support all of our guests to leave little to no footprint on our beautiful, remote landscape with a variety of off-grid facilities .

Our small and friendly island offers a surprising range of things to enjoy. Whether it’s hiking a scenic clifftop whilst watching the vast array of birds soar overhead; spotting seals, dolphins and whales from an unspoilt beach whilst the children race up the sand dunes; or enjoying fresh seafood after shopping for artwork and crafts, there’s something for everyone.
